Freshman tuition and non-tuition tuition scholarships at NAU for the 2023-2024 academic year

General criteria

Required of all scholarships unless noted otherwise in individual award elements.

  • Citizenship: Students must meet Arizona Proposition 300 Public Program eligibility requirements.
  • First Degree: May only be used for a student’s first baccalaureate degree.
  • Enrollment: Must be full-time at the time of disbursement.
  • Tuition Only: These awards cover tuition only; they do not cover fees or other expenses.
  • Campus:  Must attend the Flagstaff Mountain campus.
  • Deadline: The offer of admission must be accepted and the enrollment deposit paid by May 1 for the following academic year. If awarded, high school transcripts must be submitted per the instructions provided in the award letter.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students are automatically considered for these scholarships upon admission. A separate application is not required.
  • Use our Net Price Calculator to determine which tuition scholarships you might be eligible for – results are estimates only.

Renewal Criteria

  • Renewable for eight semesters, applied to the fall and spring semesters only.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA as noted in individual award elements and on the award letter.
  • Maintain full-time course enrollment.

Reinstatement

  • If you have circumstances preventing you from meeting the renewal criteria, submit a Scholarship Reinstatement Request by the priority date for the applicable semester. Submission of this request does not guarantee award reinstatement.

Education Abroad and Student Exchange

NAU Tuition Scholarships may be applied toward tuition for most education abroad and exchange programs but cannot be used for faculty-led or provider programs. Contact us if you are considering studying abroad or participating in an exchange program.

Arizona Residents

Lumberjack Scholars Award Accordion Closed

Amount: Covers 100 percent of NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus tuition (fall and spring); does not cover fees or other expenses. Additional tuition costs greater than the amount originally awarded that result from excess hours are the student’s responsibility.

Selection: 3.75-4.0 unweighted core high school GPA

Eligibility: Arizona residents only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition.

President’s Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $9,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.5-3.74 GPA unweighted core high school GPA

Eligibility: Arizona residents only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).

Dean’s with Distinction Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $6,500 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.4-3.49 unweighted core high school GPA

Eligibility: Arizona residents only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).

Dean’s Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $5,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.0-3.39 unweighted core high school GPA.

Eligibility: Arizona residents only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).

Opportunity Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $2,500 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: Admitted-2.99 unweighted core high school GPA

Eligibility: Arizona residents only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).

Arizona Academic Decathlon Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $2,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Availability: Up to four consecutive years, fall and spring semesters only, provided the student meets the renewal criteria each year. Number of semesters/years is contingent upon academic level when student transfers to NAU.

How to apply: The Arizona Academic Decathlon Association selects the recipients.

Deadline: Priority is given to students who submit their application by Aug. 1 for fall and Dec. 1 for spring.

Selection: Participation in the Arizona Academic Decathlon–either regional or state–for two or more years is required.

Eligibility: Arizona residents only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

Founders Gold Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $6,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.5-4.0 unweighted core high school GPA.

Eligibility: Western Undergraduate Exchange students only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).

Founders Blue Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $5,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.0-3.49 unweighted core high school GPA

Eligibility: Western Undergraduate Exchange students only

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

President’s Excellence Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $11,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.5-4.0 unweighted core high school  GPA

Eligibility: Non-residents only (Non-WUE eligible)

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).

President’s Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $9,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: 3.0-3.49 unweighted high school core GPA.

Eligibility: Non-residents only (Non-WUE eligible)

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other outside tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of tuition. It cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships offered at NAU (the President’s International Baccalaureate scholarship is the only exception).


Other

President’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Accordion Closed

Award Amount: $5,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

Selection: The IB diploma is awarded to students who earn at least 24 points, subject to certain minimum levels of performance across the whole program and to satisfactory participation in the creativity, action, and service requirements. The maximum a Diploma Program student can earn is 45 points.

Eligibility: Arizona residents and non-residents (including WUE students)

Renewal Criteria: Maintain a 2.0 cumulative NAU GPA

Multiple scholarship awards: This award can be combined with other tuition scholarships as long as it does not exceed the cost of the out of state portion of tuition.
