Roger Bounds has been a member of the Northern Arizona University Health Sciences faculty since 2001. Prior to NAU, he taught at Sam Houston State University in Texas. Roger earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University with an emphasis in Allied Health Education. His general research and practice interests lie primarily in promoting physical activity across the lifespan to include both community-based interventions and facilitating individual sport performance and wellness.
He has additional degrees in Exercise Physiology (Master of Science) and Sport Management/Outdoor Education (Bachelor of Science). Roger also has experience and interest in pre-hospital emergency medicine and unintentional injury prevention. He has been continuously certified (Arizona) and/or licensed (Texas) as a paramedic since 19Re90 and has been involved in various forms of EMS delivery and pre-hospital education for over 20 years. His diversity of educational and professional experience is a natural fit with the Health Sciences Department’s variety of program offerings.
Primary Teaching Area in the Department: Public Health and Fitness Wellness
Current Research Interest Areas: The use of unique body weight support treadmill (Alter-G) for various injury rehabilitation and/or sport performance goals
Past Research Interest Areas: (1) The influence of real-time video and kinesthetic feedback on CPR skill acquisition; and (2) Facilitating research skill development among American Indian students
