Brettania O’Connor, MPH, PhD
Associate Professor
Dr. Brettania O’Connor has worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Northern Arizona University’s Department of Health Sciences since 2018.
Brettania earned her Ph.D in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her MPH in Environmental and Occupational Health and a Graduate Certificate in International Health Policy from The George Washington University, and a B.S. in Biology from George Mason University.
Prior to joining NAU, Brettania worked for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill teaching graduate students in the Public Health Leadership Program and teaching within UNC’s MPH@UNC online program. Brettania previously worked on global environmental health policy issues in the Arctic region while based in Norway and maternal and child health issues while based in Brazil.
Brettania’s research interests are in the areas of global health, environmental health, epidemiologic methods, disparities in access to healthcare, rural health, and both chronic and infectious disease epidemiology. Brettania is interested in evidence-based best teaching practices and has earned the Association of College and University Educator’s (ACUE) Effective Teaching Practices credentials.
