We are Lumberjacks

Lumberjack spirit

Alumni students stand together on NAU campus.

When you go to NAU, the Lumberjack spirit extends to all you do—from cheering on teams to striving to do your best.

As Lumberjacks, we show our pride in our university by wearing NAU gear on True Blue Fridays, helping others succeed, and waving “hello” to our mascot, Louie the Lumberjack.

The Lumberjack spirit is about keeping alive traditions that are over 120 years old and building new traditions for future Lumberjacks. For we want a victory tonight!

Enduring traditions

Student walks with their parents on campus.

NAU celebrates homecoming and family weekend during the fall semester. Homecoming has been observed since 1924 and has events for alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Family weekend brings students and their families together for university activities.

Learning new traditions

Students dressed in NAU gear in student section at NAU football game.

Do you know what a Lumberjack tree cookie is? During football games, the NAU Logging Sports Club uses a chainsaw to saw a slice from a tree trunk every time NAU scores.

Know how to make an “L” and a “J” with your hands? You form the “L” with your right hand and the “J” with your left hand.

NAU cheerleaders cheer outside.

NAU fight song

Fight, fight, fight for NAU!

Take the ball and follow through.

Lead the blue and gold to fame,

As we win another game.

Cheer, cheer, cheer for NAU!

We want a victory!

So fight, fight, fight with all your might,

For we want a victory tonight!
