Accreditation


NAU is accredited by regional and national associations

Accreditation is a public validation of quality assurance through non-governmental authorities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education such as The Higher Learning Commission, Council on Social Work Education, National Recreation and Park Association, and other regional associations.  Northern Arizona University’s accreditation is extended through 2027–2028.


SBS departmental and program accreditations

In addition to NAU’s university-wide accreditation, programs in several SBS departments have specialized accreditation.

Geography, Planning and Recreation Parks and Recreation Program

Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT)

COAPRT-accredited programs ensure that students enrolled are provided a quality education that empowers them to succeed in parks, recreation, tourism, and related specialization professions.

National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)

NRPA-accredited programs deliver the highest standards of ethical and professional practice in the delivery of park and recreation programs.

Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA)

NASPAA-accredited programs demonstrate ongoing improvement and a commitment to public service education.

Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

CSWE-accredited social work programs ensure the program’s mission aligns with social work competencies to prepare students for professional practice. They are committed to ongoing program assessment and renewal based on data-informed decision-making.
