Professional Education Programs
NAU’s Professional Education Programs (PEP) consist of 31 undergraduate and graduate programs across five colleges that prepare teachers and school leaders, counselors, and psychologists. There were 2,018 candidates enrolled in initial teacher preparation programs during Fall 2021 and 518 graduates in FY 2021. There were 488 students enrolled in advanced programs in Fall 2020 and 2250 graduates in FY 2021. In 2017, NAU earned Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation.
PEP manages student teaching placements, ensures candidates meet outlined expectations for the student teaching course, oversees the quality assurance system established to collect and monitor assessment data, and monitors the accreditation and state approval processes and reporting for education programs leading to licensure in Arizona. PEP also manages the Arizona Teachers Academy at NAU, designed to support the recruitment and retention of teachers for Arizona’s public schools.
