Important résumé tips

Critical résumé elements

  • contact information and any elements specifically requested from the employer, such as a photo or references
  • a summary of your skills, abilities, and relevant experiences
  • a concise, professional appearance (alignment, format, margins, etc.)

Important résumé tips to remember

  • 1–2 pages maximum, or as specified by the potential employer
  • references who are knowledgeable about your abilities

Résumé format

  • personal information including name, phone number, and email
  • personal statement
  • education
  • relevant experience
  • other information you believe is important and relevant to the job, including language proficiency, awards, skills, or membership in professional organizations

Selecting references

  • people who can speak to your ability and potential
  • student teaching/practicum coordinators, supervisors from a previously held job, or university instructors are good examples
  • include three recent references unless directed otherwise by employer
