Justice Studies, Minor

If you’re earning a degree in a field such as public administration, political science, sociology, or psychology, you will find the theoretical and practical courses offered in this minor beneficial to your pursuit of employment in the public sector, particularly areas involving the criminal justice system. Careers in law enforcement, probation and parole, corrections, legal offices, and victim advocacy are just a few of the options you may choose to pursue.

The courses offered in the Justice Studies Minor are designed to provide students from other programs with a general understanding of the criminal justice process so they can understand and evaluate issues facing the criminal justice field. Students pursing a degree in fields such as public administration, political science, sociology, and psychology will find the theoretical and practical courses offered in this minor beneficial to their pursuit of employment in the public sector, particularly areas involving the criminal justice system.

This minor is not available to students pursuing the BA or BS in Justice Studies.  Please contact an advisor for more information.

University Requirements

  • A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.

    To receive a minor (18 to 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.

Minor Requirements
  • Take the following 18 units:

    • JUS 110, JUS 120, JUS 330, JUS 411 (12 units)
    • Select any two JUS 300 or JUS 400-level courses. (6 units)
  • This minor is not available to students pursuing the BS Criminology and Criminal Justice, Interdisciplinary Studies - Justice Studies 90-30, Justice Studies B, or the Applied Science - Justice Studies.

  • Be aware that some courses may have prerequisites that you must also take. For prerequisite information click on the course or see your advisor.
