Agricultural degree scholarships through SANDY LOAM

In 2022 the NAU–Yuma Biological and Natural Sciences program was awarded a USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Hispanic Serving Institutions Education grant to support students in this region with scholarships and internships for careers in agricultural related science careers.  The program, Science in Agriculture by Navigating to Degrees in Yuma: Learning, Opportunities, Assistance, and Mentorship (SANDY LOAM), will support up to 5 students each year, with each student receiving $6,000/year scholarships, to complete their bachelor of science degree in Biological and Natural Resource Sciences.  In addition to the financial assistance students will receive mentoring from industry partners, outreach activities with the community through Arizona Western College’s “I’m Going to College,” and travel to a national USDA NIFA conference.

Providing scientific support to the Yuma agricultural industry

The SANDY LOAM program is looking to recruit students majoring in Biological and Natural Resource Sciences at NAU–Yuma.  Students interested in a career in an agricultural-related field (e.g. water analysis, soil science, veterinary medicine, food safety, microbial testing, lab analysis, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.
