NAU–Yuma student receives Distinguished Senior Award

Jaymie Montgomery

On November 19, 2019, Jaymie Montgomery earned the Distinguished Senior Award for her achievements in her academics and extensive involvement with the University. She stated that she felt excited and rewarded because her accomplishments were being acknowledged. It was interesting for her to learn about the significance of the award that she was given. Not only has Jaymie earned excellent grades throughout her education, she has contributed to her community significantly. During her education, she was Treasurer for the Student Nurses’ Association. She participated in fundraisers, such as flu vaccination events and takeovers, to raise funds for the association. Furthermore, she was a Cohort representative and met with the Dean of Nursing and professors to talk about how to improve the Nursing program overall. Lastly, she visited Ghana, Africa to do medical work for the community.

This December, Jaymie will graduate with a major in Nursing and a minor in Psychology & Biology. Her goal after college is to pass her NCLEX exam and earn a master’s degree in Nursing or Education. She has already achieved one of her goals which is working at the Mayo Clinic as part of the Progressive Care Unit. In conclusion, Jaymie is an exceptional person that has done so much for her career and for our community. We appreciate her hard work and her dedication to the university. She will always be part of our Lumberjack family. We wish her the best of luck. Thank you Jaymie Montgomery.
