Scholarships now available for all NAU teacher certification degree programs
The Yuma Campus of Northern Arizona University will be offering the NAU Teachers’ Academy scholarships this fall for all bachelor’s and master’s degrees leading to teacher certification.
NAU Yuma currently offers the NAU Teacher’s Academy scholarship for their elementary education and special education bachelor’s degrees. Beginning this fall, students in all degrees leading to teacher certification will be eligible. These include master’s degrees in elementary and special education as well as the Post Baccalaureate Secondary Education Certificate.
The Academy was launched two years ago by Governor Doug Ducey to bring more teachers to Arizona’s classrooms. Under the Teachers’ Academy program, any tuition costs not paid by scholarships or grants are waived for Academy candidates in exchange for their future commitment to teach in Arizona schools that serve low-income students.
NAU Yuma partners with local school districts for field experiences, student teaching, and internships. Because students in the teacher education programs often remain in the communities where they grew up, they bring a special perspective to the classroom, and a personal commitment to support local students. The NAU Teachers’ Academy now provides an opportunity for many more local people to become certified teachers.
