NAU–Yuma student wins Best Individual Student Negotiator Award
On April 12, 2019, Baylor University in Waco, TX sponsored its fourth annual Business Negotiation Competition strictly for undergraduate students. It is the only event of its kind in the United States and attracts participants from all over the globe including universities in South Korea and Hong Kong. The competition consists of two rounds of team negotiations tackling such issues as the purchase of a B&B after it had been featured on a reality television show. Students are judged by professional business executives and academics with a great deal of experience in negotiation. For the second year, NAU sent a team of two to compete. In our first showing, Richard Jones and Stanley Humphrey, Jr. finished as the fifth best team overall in a competitive field of twenty-six, and this year Kelly Shaeffer won the Best Individual Student Negotiator Award. She represented NAU proudly along with Bethany Clark under the coaching of Professor Jason Myrowitz. The round where Kelly really shined focused on obtaining free promotion for a local folk music festival. The award is a testament to Kelly’s hard work, diligent preparation, and integrative bargaining skills.
