In-State Tuition/Yellow Ribbon Program
In-State Tuition Programs for Military-Connected Students
If you are an out-of-state resident or in the Western Undergraduate Exchange program (WUE), there are a few options you may be eligible for to obtain the in-state tuition rate as a military-connected student. If you are unsure of your residency status, please call 928-523-8387.
Northern Arizona University offers in-state tuition to honorably-discharged veterans who intend to become Arizona residents. Use of VA Educational benefits is not a factor for this benefit.
** Remember for those utilizing Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits, the VA only pays the in-state portion of your tuition, not the out-of-state portion. Just because you have GI-Bill® funding does not mean you are automatically granted the in-state tuition rate. YOU MUST complete the required residency application form. An eligibility determination cannot be made until the residency application is complete and all supporting documents have been received.
In-State Tuition/Yellow Ribbon Form should be completed as soon as the student is physically living in the state of Arizona, not before, please complete the form by the first week of attendance.
If you are not living in the state of Arizona or if you do not meet the criteria, you may still be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
Note: You must complete your citizenship verification at nau.edu/verify before you proceed with any residency form.
Yellow Ribbon Eligibility criteria
Residency status must be established prior to Yellow Ribbon acceptance. For example, a student seeking in-state tuition under Section 702 of the “Choice Act” will not be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program as the student will already receive the in-state tuition rate.
All students using Chapter 33 Post 9/11 with 100% rating and are eligible for Yellow Ribbon. To verify eligibility please review your Certificate of Eligibility.
Please review your residency status prior. Under the Veterans Choice Act you could be eligible for in-state tuition and Yellow Ribbon will no longer be needed. Residency must be established prior to Yellow Ribbon acceptance.
Yellow Ribbon is only given to those who have eligibility. Lack of months or VA funding per student could result in the removal of Yellow Ribbon funding from Northern Arizona University at any time.
No application is required, instead, to determine eligibility, please complete the In-State Tuition/Yellow Ribbon Form.
