Dear Indigenous Graduates,

Congratulations class of 2024! The Indigenous Convocation ceremony is a cultural celebration of your achievements and accomplishments as Indigenous Peoples*.

We are excited and thankful to your family, friends, staff, faculty, tribal, and community members who have encouraged and supported your collegiate journey.

May you wear your Indigenous stole with strength, pride, and joy.

We wish you the very best and welcome to the Indigenous Lumberjack alumni family!

Respectfully,

The Indigenous Convocation Committee

*Indigenous Peoples include Native Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Native Pacific Islanders, and other global Indigenous relatives. Indigenous Peoples also identify with specific Nations, Tribes, Bands, Clans, and Communities.

Since 1994, the Indigenous staff and faculty have honored the achievements of Indigenous students who self-identify as Native American, Alaska Native, and (in recent years) Native Hawaiian, and who are graduating from Northern Arizona University. The Office of Indigenous Student Success, along with our colleagues in the Office of Native American Initiatives, continues the tradition of giving complimentary stoles/sashes to Indigenous graduates. The stole design was created by former NAU graphic designer Ronald Redsteer, and the artwork consists of regional landscapes and Indigenous images representing courage, persistence, and wisdom.

Congratulations graduates!

Respectfully,
