Undergraduate

We offer a wide range of undergraduate degrees and minors across computer science, electrical engineering, and informatics. We invite you to explore which option will best help you achieve your goals.

Computer Science

In the area of computer science, we offer two undergraduate degree programs and a minor:

Computer Science, Bachelor of Science (BSCS) Accordion Closed

The BSCS degree is offered through the Computer Science program, which is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and provides exceptional career flexibility and a broad range of opportunities in programming and software development. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, software developers are among the fastest growing and most rewarding occupations with an exceptionally strong 24% growth in job outlook through 2026.

Graduates with this degree are well-qualified to work for large software development companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Intel, Honeywell, and other software-centric companies and startups. This degree also provides a strong foundation for further graduate study in an MS or PhD program. Students who are not planning on further graduate study may also be interested in the BSACS program.

Students in the BSCS program also complete a capstone project in their final year.

The catalog description for the BSCS program offers detailed requirements while BSCS degree progression plans provide example pathways that consider course prerequisites.

Software Engineering, Bachelor of Science (BSSE) Accordion Closed

The BSSE degree trains students to apply the principles of engineering to design, develop, maintain, test, and evaluate computer software. While computer scientists use theory and algorithmic design to develop correct and efficient software, software engineers focus on the practice of software construction and articulating and applying best practices to each stage of the software development life cycle.

With software systems becoming increasingly ubiquitous, graduates of this program enjoy strong employment prospects, and this program responds to high demand by students and the industry—software developer positions are projected to grow by 21% through 2028 and command generous compensation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, software developers are among the fastest growing and most rewarding occupations with an exceptionally strong 22% growth in job outlook through 2029.

Graduates with this degree are well-qualified to work for large software development companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Intel, Honeywell, and other software-centric companies and startups. This degree also provides a strong foundation for further graduate study in an MS or PhD program which emphasizes software engineering research.

Students in the BSSE program also complete a capstone project in their final year.

Interdisciplinary Global Programs

The Interdisciplinary Global Program (IGP) is an innovative dual-degree program that internationalizes a student’s experience in a science or engineering discipline. This is done by adding intensive language study, immersion in our community of international scholars, and a variety of other international and cultural curricular elements and activities. In this program, studies in language and culture are closely integrated with engineering and science, following a set of carefully crafted degree progress plans.

Students in an IGP program earn both a BS in their chosen discipline and a BA in either Modern Languages or Comparative Cultural Studies. Visit Interdisciplinary Global Programs for more information.

Dual degree opportunity for Computer Science or Electrical Engineering majors

The Center for International Education (CIE) and School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) is delighted to share this opportunity to earn a dual Master of Science (Computer Science or Electrical Engineering) from NAU and Master in Integration, Security, and Trust of Embedded Systems (MISTRE) from Grenoble Esisar in Valence, France. Students admitted into this program will spend one year in Flagstaff, and one year taking Computer Science courses in English with our partner in France. To learn more about this exciting opportunity, please make an appointment with Tricia.
