Dr. Dmitrieva is a life-span developmental psychologist with additional expertise in health and applied statistical methodology. Her primary research is on reducing the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among American Indian patients. To accomplish this goal, she is leading an interdisciplinary university-clinician team in elucidating stress-related precursors of health behaviors among American Indians with prediabetes. This work leverages advances in smartphone technology and large-scale informatics to develop a culturally-sensitive electronic support system for American Indian patients at risk of type 2 diabetes.
In carrying out her work, Dr. Dmitrieva has a particular interest in utilizing innovative research methods and statistical analyses (e.g., ecological momentary assessment, latent variable modeling) to address rich and meaningful questions that may have been previously difficult to answer. In her research and teaching, Dr. Dmitrieva provides a mentorship atmosphere that encourages and challenges students to be active learners and collaborators.
