Joe Rommel Memorial Scholarship

Honoring a life well lived

Joe Rommel passed away July 14, 2009, following a tragic motor vehicle accident near Sunset Crater. He lived and worked in Flagstaff while he attended NAU. Joe’s major at the time of his death was Parks and Recreation Management. He worked for Babbitt’s Backcountry and pursued his love of the outdoors as a guide for Grand Canyon Hikes. Joe selflessly gave many hours to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and developed lasting friendships with the many volunteers that he worked with.

The Joe Rommel Memorial Scholarship is awarded to full-time students that apply for the Wilderness First Responder certification. The scholarship covers the cost of applying for the certification and all required supplies.
