Residence hall student positions

Desk Manager (DM) – Open Accordion Closed

Desk Managers provide oversight for front desk operations and provide supervision to Desk Assistants and Summer Housing Assistants while working closely with the Residence Hall Director of the building. Federal Work-Study Eligible students are encouraged to apply.

Desk Assistant (DAs) – Closed Accordion Closed

We are excited that you are interested in applying for the Desk Assistant position. Priority Deadline to apply is July 19, 2020.

Position Description

Desk Assistants (DAs) are hired to work in the residence halls to manage front desk operations. DAs will work daytime, evenings and weekends at various residence halls supporting residential students and upholding the mission and values of University Housing at NAU. Hiring for the position is determined by a student’s application, interview responses and scheduling availability. Federal Work-Study Eligible students are encouraged to apply. Desk Assistants will provide excellent customer service by answering telephones, responding to emails, assisting with check in and check out, receiving and issuing packages, maintaining hall supplies including but not limited to checking out vacuums, keys and other resources provided by the front desk. Additionally, DAs help maintain the safety and security of the residential buildings.

DAs work an average of 10-15 hours per week; schedules vary depending on availability and need. The DA position is trained and managed by a student Desk Manager, employed by University Housing. 

Hiring Process

Complete applications that meet the qualifications will be considered to move forward in the hiring process.

After reviewing applications and availability, limited interviews will be offered and scheduled.

 Following an interview, students will be notified through NAU email to accept or decline the position by July 31, 2020. Should a student not initially receive an offer for the position, they can keep their application active in the event that a position becomes available.

This position will be open throughout the 2020 fall semester. 

Eligibility

Be a full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the NAU Mountain campus.

Have a minimum of 2.5 GPA to apply. An exception is made for first-time freshmen who apply, for these students grade checks will be conducted at the end of the semester.

Be in good conduct standing with the university to maintain employment throughout the semester.

Community Development Assistant (CDA) – Closed Accordion Closed

Community Development Assistants work in the Community Development Center (CDC) the supply and craft resource space for student leaders within the residence halls. Community Development Assistants help to maintain supplies, staff the desk and help provide resources to students. Email Jamie Lloyd at Jamie.Lloyd@nau.edu with questions about the position. Residence Life Support Services (RLSS) – Open Accordion Closed

Residence Life Support Services (RLSS) employees perform a variety of tasks that directly and indirectly support the operation of the 22 on campus residence halls – ensuring customer service, safety and security of the campus residents, timely and effective delivery of duties and responsibilities, and project management execution.

RLSS is located on South Campus in building 98F. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8am-5pm. We offer part time employment with flexible hours during the academic year. Full and part time hours are generally offered during downtime (Holiday and summer breaks).  Our shifts are designed in 3-4 hour increments and students are asked to work a minimum of 6 hours per week. Our employees work in small teams providing reliable deliveries and services to the campus community.

Typical Duties:

Moving and Extraction work team – replacing broken furniture (chairs, desks, refrigerators), delivering and installing student space furniture to various halls, maintaining the warehouse inventory and fleet vehicles.  This team is also trained in the operation of industrial extraction equipment for unoccupied student room spaces and hall public space furniture.

Linen and Cleaning work team – operates industrial laundry equipment in two locations, processes and delivers linen orders to the warehouse, storage areas and various locations on campus serving camps and conferences.   This team also cleans several hall community rooms, public space furniture and warehouse inventory.

Inventory Management and Administrative work team –inventory and evaluate all areas of our residence halls, accessing and reporting damage, wear and tear, creating and following up on work orders for necessary repairs.   Oversee the warehouse inventory during placement of case goods.  Receive and evaluate shipments.  Receive, inventory and manage lost and abandoned property in compliance with policy.  This team will also assist with RLSS duties within summer projects and provide coverage for the RLSS front desk and botany.

All positions – Provide excellent customer service to residents/guests and campus partners.    Conduct detailed team walkthroughs of every NAU residence hall to assess and report building-wide readiness for fall opening.  All employees are cross-trained to serve in all capacities.
All necessary training for all positions / duties is provided.

Additional Information:

This position requires physical fitness including the strength to handle heavy objects and potentially move items for several hours a day. This includes lifting, reaching, bending, and squatting. Also, hand-eye coordination promotes careful positioning of moving materials.
We are currently hiring for Fall 2020. Some immediate start positions are available.

 University Housing Assistant (UHA) – Closed Accordion Closed

University Housing Assistants (UHAs) work to support Housing Operations, ensuring that residents living in quarantine or isolation space have what they need throughout their stay. UHAs will not be in direct contact with COVID-positive residents, but will assess rooms in advance of move-in, answer questions from residents (via email and phone) and provide contactless delivery of essential items such as meals, linens, packages, keys, etc.

University Housing Assistants will be paid $12 an hour and can work up to 26 hours per week while classes are in session, with the option to work 39 hours per week throughout the Winter Break period.

University Housing has worked closely with Environmental Health and Safety to have proper cleaning/safety guidelines, training, and Personal Protective Equipment related to COVID-19. While direct contact with COVID-19 positive students is not expected, University Housing Assistants will work in the same building where COVID-19 cases are managed.  All employees are expected to follow the health and safety guidelines at all times, and address any concerns to a supervisor immediately.

As a student videographer and photographer you will work with your supervisor and other students on creating compelling and professional video projects that are used for a variety of recruitment or educational processes within Housing and Residence Life (HRL). As a student graphic designer and photographer, you will work with your supervisor and other students on creative and informative communications for a variety of events and hall programs within Housing and Residence Life (HRL). You will be expected to meet with project leaders (clients), create concepts, proofs and final high-quality, print ready designs. You will also find yourself improving on existing photography skills while documenting key events and updating hall specific website photos.
