Renter’s insurance

Protect your personal property

Consider renters insurance to protect the personal property you bring with you to campus.  Many people wonder about the residence halls and are curious if renters insurance will cover them while living on campus. The answer is yes. Students living on campus are encouraged to obtain renters insurance and actually make up one of the largest groups that has this type of insurance.

What can renter’s insurance do for you?

  • Protect personal items against damage or loss
  • Protects you in case someone is injured while in your place of residence
  • Protects personal belongings in case of disaster

How can I get renter’s insurance?

Independent student policy Accordion Closed

College students should consider purchasing renters insurance to protect their personal property, such as a computers, bicycles or furniture, in the event that it is damaged, destroyed or stolen. Students can do this by purchasing insurance through an insurance provider while living on campus. It is important to be aware of what is specifically covered in the policy, confirming first with your insurance agent that the items in your place of residence are covered by renters insurance.

Dependent student policy Accordion Closed

If a student is a dependent under their parent’s insurance, the student’s personal property in some cases is not covered if the student lives on campus. However, parents should check their policy or contact their insurance agent for further information on coverage for their student who is away at school.
