Information regarding the Pipeline and Haywire Fires

Dear Lumberjacks,

As the Pipeline and Haywire Fires just north of Flagstaff continue to burn today and several neighborhoods have been evacuated, I write to share updates about NAU’s response and call on our community to join in supporting those who have been affected.

Throughout the university, our team has mobilized resources and is prepared to offer shelter and other support to Coconino County and our fire management teams, as well as affected individuals. Below are key details:

Emergency assistance:

  • If you or another member of the Lumberjack community needs immediate assistance with temporary housing, meals, or other emergency support, please reply to this message or email President@nau.edu. We will seek to work quickly with affected individuals to offer support however we can.
  • For the latest information, please visit the Coconino County Fire public information page.
  • NAU employees experiencing mental or emotional distress can contact EAW at ask-eaw@nau.edu or (928) 523-1552 for assistance.

Opportunities to contribute to the response:

  • If you are in a position to do so, please donate to support those impacted by the fire—including those within our NAU community:
  • Donate to the United Way of Northern Arizona Crisis Fund through the UNWA website or text UWNARESPONSE to 41444.
  • We are working closely with Coconino County and several nonprofit organizations assisting with the fire response. We will be in touch as volunteer opportunities are available and encourage you to use your NAU Staff Community Engagement time to support our community in this time of need.We stand ready to help those in need and to assist Coconino County and the first responders on the front lines of the fire as they work to contain the situation.

In support and solidarity,

José Luis Cruz Rivera
President
