In solidarity with the University of Arizona community
Dear Lumberjacks,
It is with great sadness that we mourn in solidarity with the students, faculty, staff, and community of the University of Arizona, following the tragic shooting that happened yesterday afternoon on their campus in Tucson and the passing of Dr. Thomas Meixner (Department Head of the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences).
This tragedy hits particularly close to home, because so many here at NAU share close ties with our sister institution, as alumni, parents of students, friends, collaborators, and colleagues of Wildcats. Our thoughts go out to all who have been affected.
During this difficult time, I encourage you to take care of yourselves and others by taking advantage of the resources we offer at NAU:
- Counseling Services: 928-523-2261
- NAU Counseling Services Online Resources
- Employee Assistance and Wellness Resources
- Crisis Response Network: 877-756-4090, a 24-hour crisis line available to anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.
We must continue to commit ourselves to creating the conditions for a safe, welcoming, and vibrant community where students can live and learn to the fullest and our faculty and staff can teach, work, inquire, and discover with freedom and without fear.
Sincerely,
José Luis Cruz Rivera
President
