Happy holidays, Lumberjacks!

Dear Lumberjacks,

As we celebrate NAU’s 125th year and bring to a close a most memorable fall semester, Rima and I want to express our heartfelt thanks for everything you’ve done to make this year a success. Together, we have achieved much and continue the hard, important work of elevating NAU as the nation’s preeminent engine of opportunity, vehicle of economic mobility, and driver of social impact.

This year’s achievements have been extraordinary and drive impact and prosperity throughout our state, from life-changing research and groundbreaking discoveries to the launch of the College of Nursing and the naming of the Steve Sanghi College of Engineering. And at the center of it all is our unwavering commitment to being a student-centered university. Tomorrow, we will celebrate the culmination of this work, as more than 2,000 graduates and 13,000 of their loved ones join us for commencement in the Skydome.

None of this would be possible without the dedication, pride, and contributions of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community members.

With deep gratitude, Rima and I—and our loyal doxies Leia, Louie, and Jax—wish you the happiest of holidays. We can’t wait to continue building an exceptional future together in the New Year.

Warm regards,

José Luis Cruz Rivera
