Applications open for University Leadership Program

Dear colleagues,

As shared earlier this week with the release of NAU 2025 – Elevating Excellence, much work is underway throughout our university community in advancing bold strategic priorities and a refined and revitalized institutional vision and mission. Underpinning these efforts are our people—the dedicated faculty and staff of NAU—who help shape through their talent, energy, and diverse backgrounds and perspectives the advancement of our collective work.

As we embark on a bold agenda to advance the New NAU, it is my pleasure to invite the faculty and staff of NAU to apply for the 2022-2023 University Leadership Program (ULP). I have seen over the last year the incredible impact of ULP in developing leadership skills, broadening institutional knowledge, and building capacity from within our university. And I have met many members of past cohorts whose work at NAU has benefited tremendously from the experiences gained through this longstanding program.

ULP begins in September with a two-day retreat, and all other sessions will be held on campus one Friday each month from October through April. Participants will explore leadership skills, discuss challenges facing the university and higher education across the nation, and gain an understanding of how the Arizona educational system functions. Building on the program’s existing strengths and the foundational knowledge provided, this year’s ULP will feature a new experiential component, giving participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on work advancing strategic priorities identified in NAU 2025 – Elevating Excellence. I am excited to have this engaged group of current and future university leaders not only learning about leadership in principle, but also engaging directly in practice at the forefront of implementation on our strategic initiatives.

ULP participants must be able to commit to attend each session and are expected to do work outside of the classroom sessions aligned with the hands-on strategic priorities. In addition, supervisors must sign off in supporting their employees’ participation in ULP.

The 2022-2023 ULP cohort will meet on the following days throughout the year, with all sessions running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted:

  • September 9-10 (retreat)
  • October 14
  • November 18
  • December 16 (noon to 4 p.m.)
  • January 20
  • February 17
  • March 10
  • April 14
  • May 5 (graduation)

To learn more, visit the University Leadership Program website. To apply, please complete the application and return to universityleadershipprogram@nau.edu by 5 p.m. May 27.

Thank you for your commitment to NAU and I look forward to engaging with the 2022-2023 ULP cohort soon!

Sincerely,
