Announcing the search for Vice President for Inclusion, Diversity, and Engagement

Dear Lumberjacks,

I am pleased to formally announce today, following up on our plan outlined in spring 2022, the kickoff of the search for the Vice President for Inclusion, Diversity, and Engagement (VP IDE). We seek a talented, dynamic, and visionary leader who will serve as a Cabinet-level officer with responsibility for building an inclusive environment that supports all Lumberjacks and acknowledges and celebrates the range of backgrounds, lived experiences, and beliefs of our students, faculty, staff, and the diverse communities we serve.

To facilitate the search, we have secured a national search firm that will help us develop a strong pool of candidates and fully engage the university community in vetting finalists. In addition, I want to acknowledge and thank the following individuals who comprise the search committee, and whose efforts will be instrumental in filling this leadership position:

  • Dr. Josh Mackey, Search Committee Chair (Vice President for Human Resources)
  • Dr. Samantha Clifford (Diversity Commission Representative; Interim Assistant Vice Provost, NAU Online)
  • Phoenix Eskridge-Aldama (Graduate Student Government representative)
  • Traci Gleason (Director, Office of Inclusion: Multicultural & LGBTQIA+ Student Services)
  • Dr. Cynthia Ivy (Faculty Senate representative; Clinical Professor, Occupational Therapy)
  • Kinsey Kavanagh (ASNAU representative)
  • Dr. T. Mark Montoya (Associate Dean for Curriculum & Student Affairs, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences; Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies)
  • M. Angel Ramirez (Staff Advisory Council Representative; Records Coordinator, Intermediate, Office of the Registrar)
  • Dr. Martin L. Tease (Diversity Fellow Representative; Coordinator, Office of Inclusion)
  • Alicia Stewart Voytek (Associate Vice President, Campus Living)
  • Kiara Weathersby (Manager, Student Development, Office of Indigenous Student Success)

I look forward to the work ahead and to the partnership of a VP IDE who will help us realize the bold vision of NAU 2025 – Elevating Excellence, support our strategic priority of mission-driven and diverse faculty and staff, and ensure that we work together across the university to advance the important work of building an inclusive and engaging environment for all.

In partnership,

José Luis Cruz Rivera
President
