Philosophy and Film

The Sedona International Film Festival screens films in Flagstaff on the second Wednesday of the month, in partnership with Harkins Theatres. Members of the NAU Philosophy Department facilitate discussions after the films exploring ideas that inspire, perplex, or provoke the audience. Prompted by the powerful medium of film, and occasioned by the community-enriching practice of public art gatherings, Philosophy and Film brings accessibility to the subtle, profound, philosophical ideas that film inspires.

“Anyone sitting in those theatres those evenings can attest to the fact that the post-film discussions with your team make the event much more than just a film — they become cultural “events” and significant educational and insightful opportunities to talk openly and spread the awareness of philosophy in our everyday lives.” –Patrick Schweiss, Executive Director, Sedona International Film Festival
