Federal work-study for NAU supervisors

Importance of hiring Federal Work-Study students

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is critical to the success of not only the students who utilize the FWS program, but to NAU as a university.

Hiring FWS student workers is a win-win. NAU receives quality work hours from highly qualified student employees. In turn, these employees gain valuable skills and experience while earning money to pay for college.

NAU receives more than $1 million annually from the federal government toward FWS student employees to help us offset the cost of hiring student workers. If we, as a university, don’t use up our allocated funding for FWS employees, we risk receiving less funding in the future. If we go over our allotment of federal funding for FWS employees, we must pay the difference.

Therefore, hiring FWS student employees and navigating the process correctly is critical to NAU’s annual operations.

Training for supervisors

NAU supervisors hiring FWS student employees must complete a 30-minute Federal Work-Study Hiring training session. Contact our FWS Coordinator at 928-523-6036 or FederalWorkStudy@nau.edu to schedule your training.
