Federal TEACH Grant available to NAU students
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant
A TEACH Grant can provide grants of up to $3,772 (beginning 10/1/20) per year (based on enrollment level) to students who will be going into the field of teaching.
As a condition of receiving this grant, students must sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve. If students do not fulfill their service obligation, all TEACH Grant funds they received will convert to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Students will be required to pay this loan in full, with interest charged from the date each TEACH Grant was disbursed.
The TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve requires that individuals do the following:
- Be a full-time teacher for at least four academic years within eight years after program completion.
- Serve as a “highly-qualified” teacher at a low-income school or educational service agency.
- Serve in a high need field.
- Provide the U.S. Department of Education with documentation of progress toward completing your service obligation.
A significant number of schools throughout the state of Arizona qualify as a “low-income school or educational service agency.”
Listed below are the following links for lists of qualified schools in Arizona. Qualified schools for other US states and territories can be identified through the US Department of Education Teacher Cancellation Low Income Directory.
- Arizona School Locations by County
- Bureau of Indian Education (includes schools in Arizona and other states)
Please see the U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Shortage Area Data Dashboard to generate reports by school year and state for more information on which disciplines qualify as high need field.
- Be a current student in an eligible undergraduate or graduate degree program.
- Agree to teach for at least four years in a school serving low-income students.
- Maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA.
The TEACH Grant Application must be completed each year by the following deadlines:
October 1st for fall
March 1st for spring
The summer TEACH may be available to you and you will be notified via email with steps for summer.
