Private Donor Scholarships

Hundreds of privately-funded scholarships are available to NAU students

Many companies, foundations, and organizations offer private scholarships with varying criteria. The scholarships listed on this page are not offered or administered by NAU.

Our office has begun compiling private donor scholarships and adding them to the ScholarshipUniverse Portal. Simply log in, complete a student profile, and let the system do the searching. Students should keep in mind that the database of scholarships can have approximately 10,000 scholarships at any given time, so it’s very important to be specific when creating a profile to ensure that they are getting the most relevant matches.

Tips for Students

Research: Begin researching scholarships that are awarded to students based on their college majors, hobbies, achievements, grades, or other criteria. Organizations such as CollegeBoard and FastWeb can help you find scholarships for which you may qualify.

Plan ahead: Donors may ask for essays or letters of recommendation that explain why you deserve to receive their scholarship. Consider creating a general essay template that you can modify for different donors and begin gathering letters of recommendation as soon as possible.

Submit complete applications: Always check that you have completed the entire application and answered all of the questions before submitting your application.

Be cautious of scams: No legitimate scholarship donor will ask you for money to apply for an award.

For scholarship donors

To add your scholarship information to our website, please submit a request to scholarships@nau.edu with the name of your award opportunity and application due date in the subject line. We will review the scholarship website and/or application you provide. If approved for posting to our webpage, we will notify you via email.  We appreciate your patience during the review process.
* Please note that links that do not go directly to a scholarship application are not accepted.

Sending a scholarship check

Once we receive a scholarship check and any corresponding documentation, we work to post the award on the student’s account in a timely manner. Donors sending a scholarship check to Northern Arizona University for a specific student (or a number of students) must send the check, made out to Northern Arizona University, to the following address:

Northern Arizona University
Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid
PO Box 4108
Flagstaff, AZ 86011

Include the student’s NAU ID Number and full name on the check and an award letter that specifies any of the scholarship requirements or restrictions, including which term the scholarship should be applied to. If you have any questions, please contact us at scholarships@nau.edu.

Priority dates for scholarship checks

All third-party, private donor scholarship checks should be received by our office no later than July 1 for the fall term and December 1 for the spring term to ensure they are posted to your account prior to fall disbursement.
