How to apply to the School of Nursing
The Northern Arizona University School of Nursing offers several ways to complete your BS in Nursing. In order to be eligible to apply to one of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs, you must have completed the pre-requisites and liberal studies requirements. These requirements can be completed at NAU or at another approved institution.
Apply to Northern Arizona University
Before applying to the School of Nursing, students must first apply to NAU. If applying to the ABSN program and are a current NAU student, you will need to reapply to the university as a post-bac student for the summer term. If you have already been accepted, continue reading to learn how to apply to the NAU School of Nursing.

Code of Conduct
Any student applying to the Northern Arizona University Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (traditional, accelerated, RN-BSN; CEP, Mid-AAS, or PL) who fails to exhibit professional and caring behaviors during any point of the application process will have their application disqualified from consideration.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses states:
“The nurse creates an ethical environment and culture of civility and kindness, treating colleagues, coworkers, employees, students, and others with dignity and respect….” (Provision 1.5, p.20)
“Disregard for the effects of one’s actions on others, bullying, harassment, intimidation, manipulation, threats, or violence are always morally unacceptable behaviors.” (Provision 1.5, p.20)

- Must have a completed NAU application on file.
- Must have a completed bachelor’s degree by the first day of the program.
- 5 or less in progress prerequisite courses during the time an applicant applies.
- Completion of all prerequisite courses with a “C” or higher (you may have the courses in progress in the semester you are applying). All prerequisite courses must be completed by the beginning of the program.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in prerequisite courses. Please note, the minimum GPA of 3.0 does not guarantee admission to the program. Most successful applicants have a GPA well above 3.0.
- Proctored HESI A2 exam via ProctorU.
- Complete and submit the following for Nursing Admissions:
- Completed nursing online application
- Upload unofficial transcripts from each college or university attended with application.
- Complete the HESI A2 Admissions Exam

Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) Accordion Closed
- You must apply through your local community college and its nursing program. Participating schools include:
- Only the applicants accepted to a participating Arizona community college’s Nursing program will be evaluated by NAU’s Advising team for further acceptance into the CEP.
- To ensure prerequisites are meeting program requirements, students are encouraged to meet with their community college/NAU nursing advisors.
- Students must attend a CEP Information Session prior to applying to the program at their participating community college/NAU.
- Final determinations of transfer credits will be made by NAU admissions and participating community college committee members.
- Application and acceptance to Northern Arizona University (NAU) School of Nursing is completed after eligibility into the CEP is determined.
Mid-AAS track Accordion Closed
The Mid-AAS program lets you work on your BSN degree while mid-way through your associates RN licensure and is part of the RN-BSN program.
- Completion of the 2nd semester (or block) at a regionally accredited Associate Degree in Nursing program.
- No more than three (3) deficient non-nursing courses, includes Liberal Studies, Diversity, and Pre-Professional courses.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 in pre-professional coursework. Any pre-professional courses taken outside the state of Arizona must be approved by the Curriculum Committee.
After your acceptance to the university, complete the BSN Mid-AAS application for the School of Nursing.
Option for Registered Nurses, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) Accordion Closed
Admission Requirements for the online RN to BSN
- Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state where you will be doing your final project classes.
- Will be required to complete all prerequisites and pre-professional requirements (listed below), but can take up to three classes concurrently with program if they are still missing.
- A minimum of 2.75 GPA in all pre-professional requirements.
Admission Requirements for the online Personalized Learning BSN
- Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state where you will be doing your final project classes.
- Have completed the following five prerequisites with a 2.75 average GPA: BIO/CHM w/lab, BIO 201, BIO 202, BIO 205, & PSY 101
- NAU’s Personalized Learning Program enables registered nurses to earn their bachelor of science in nursing degree through our fully accredited, competency-based, Personalized Learning online program. This innovative program allows students to set their own pace, and complete lessons according to their own timeline. With no deadlines and no set schedules, it’s the ideal online degree program for busy RN’s to advance their career.
For both the RN to BSN and the PL BSN you are required to complete all of the following prior to graduation from either program:
BIO/CHM, BIO 201, BIO 202, BIO 205, PSY 101, PSY 240, BIO 320, NTS 135, PSY 230 or STA 270, and NAU’s liberal studies and diversity requirements (or provide NAU with a completed “AGEC” certification).
How to apply

Admission decision: Once a decision has been made, you will be notified through your NAU email by the School of Nursing 4-6 weeks after the exam deadline. If accepted into the School of Nursing, you must reply observing NAU requirements and deadlines.
