Physically Unclonable Function (PUF)-Based Encryption Schemes with Combination of Hashing Methods


Description

The technology provides novel schemes that are based on physically unclonable functions (PUFs), multiple hashing methods, and hash-based cryptographic (HBC) methods. Within the schemes, the server receives PUF readings stored in an addressable look-up table from the client device. The private keys needed are concurrently generated by addressable PUFs and their images. The PUFs contain wallets of addressable keys which are used to encrypt and decrypt messages. Then, a combination of hashing schemes is used to encrypt messages. The hash-based cryptography (HBC) can be combined with a random ordering of the private keys, as well as multiple private keys per location.

This technology is designed for use with mainstream encryption methods that can be widely exploited both in private industry and national security.

Benefits and advantages

With this technology, the combination of hashing methods allows the encryption of larger messages (e.g., 100 Mbyte range) with cryptographic protection, such as complex transposition substitutions and diffusions. Also, the technology is quantum computing resistant by taking advantage of the PUFs’ randomness. In turn, complex key exchanges are eliminated.
