There are a variety of choral ensembles available in which NAU students may participate.
The Shrine of the Ages Choir founded in 1933 is a select, mixed choral ensemble offering upper-division music majors and experienced non-music majors an opportunity to pursue intensive study of choral music.
Five other outstanding choral ensembles are also open to students of all majors attending NAU: University Singers, Men’s Chorale, Women’s Chorale, and two Vocal Jazz Ensembles—High Altitude and Northern Voices.
In the spring semester, students may also audition for the Chamber Singers, a select ensemble that performs varied repertoire for the graduate student lecture recitals.
In addition, the choral area features an outstanding handbell choir that performs on five-octave sets of Malmark bells and chimes.
Students also have the opportunity to audition for the Master Chorale of Flagstaff, an off-campus, 100-voice auditioned community choir, comprised of people who love to sing ages 18-70 and from all walks of life.
The Shrine of the Ages Choir often performs regionally and every third year tours internationally. The choir has traveled to the Peoples Republic of China (1998), Germany and Italy (2004), Australia and New Zealand (2007), South Africa (2010), and to Bulgaria and Istanbul in 2014.
