Bassoon Studio
Thank you for visiting the bassoon studio website at Northern Arizona University!
The NAU School of Music is an exciting and rewarding place for bassoonists to study and perform music, whether you major or minor in music or choose another career path while continuing your involvement in music. Our high-caliber instrumental ensembles and individualized instruction with a full-time faculty member add to a memorable university musical experience.
Bassoonists at NAU receive weekly lessons, master classes, and reed classes. The number of students is small enough so that students get a very personalized education with a lot of attention.
I’d love to talk with you about the becoming a member of bassoon studio. Please contact me directly to talk about your interests, if you have any questions, or if you’d like a personal tour.
Thanks, Dr. Kent Moore

Basson Studio expectations
Weekly lessons
All students enrolled for bassoon lessons, get either a half-hour or one hour weekly lesson (depending on the number of credit hours for which you are enrolled). In order to get the most out of each lesson, it is crucial that everyone be on-time and ready to play at lesson time.
Master classes
Our studio has a weekly masterclass, 11:10-12:30 on Tuesdays, during which we collectively and individually perform for each other. These classes are a vital component in the development of performance skills for players at all levels.
Recitals
It is important to support each other. Members of the bassoon studio are expected to attend all recitals held by members of the studio and by the bassoon professor. Each semester our studio holds a studio recital in which all members of the studio perform.
School of Music activities
Not only are bassoonists member of the studio; we are also members of the School of Music. There are several school-wide activities, such as honors recitals and convocations, that all members of the studio should attend.
Performance opportunities
Bassoonists at NAU regularly perform as members of orchestras, several concert bands, and smaller chamber ensembles.
