NAU’s Kitt School of Music admittance process for graduate programs
To apply for acceptance into any Kitt School of Music graduate program, you must first apply to NAU’s Office of Graduate and Professional Studies.
Kitt School of Music graduate program minimum admission requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in music
- 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA
- Minimum TOEFL score of 80
- Admission to the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies at Northern Arizona University
- Major professor and/or Area Coordinator approval for the candidate’s sub-plan

Detailed instructions for the submission of additional materials, which may include audio/visual files or other examples of your work, are included in the online application. Please begin the application process and contact the major professor and/or Area Coordinator for your specific emphasis if you have questions.
Financial aid
Full (20 hours) and half (10 hours) assistantship assignments are available in all MM sub-plans. All candidates are automatically considered for an assistantship upon application for the MM in the Kitt School of Music.
In your personal statement, please identify skills you possess related to your area of study as well as other specialized skills (e.g., administrative work, music academic tutoring, organization, marketing, etc.) that may be of use to the Kitt School of Music.
