Landscape Conservation Initiative

Welcome to the Landscape Conservation Initiative at Northern Arizona University

The Landscape Conservation Initiative (LCI) at NAU forges new solutions to environmental challenges through a three-pronged approach: applied biological science, collaborative planning, and field-based educational experiences.

Learn about our most recent work here, or download the LCI brochure.

East Jemez Landscape Futures Accordion Closed

Read blog posts from Senior Research Specialist, Sasha Stortz, and Senior Program Coordinator, Cari Kimball, about how LCI combines collaborative planning, science, art, and community in the East Jemez Landscape Futures project.

Canyon de Chelly Accordion Closed

LCI recently facilitated the creation of a cooperative stewardship agreement for Canyon de Chelly National Monument between the Navajo Nation, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Indian affairs. It is the first agreement of its kind. Read more here.

Traditionally used plants Accordion Closed

Congrats to LCI’s Dr. Sara Souther on her USFS Citizen Science Competitive Funding Program award. The proposed project studies traditionally used plants in the Four Forests Restoration Initiative area. Learn more here.

L-C-Ideas

Check out LCIdeas: the LCI essay and opinion blog to read our musings on environmental science and its application to real world policy and conservation challenges. We focus on how science can best be communicated to the public, students, and decision makers.
