Ubuntu VPN Configuration
to connect to NAU’s VPN, you need to have the following software installed on
your computer. You can check for and
obtain this software through the Ubuntu Software Center.

NAU’s VPN, click on the double arrows network icon in the Notification area of your
desktop. Select VPN Connections and then
Configure VPN from the drop-down menu.

already selected, choose Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) from the drop
down menu, then select Create.
Select Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP).
Fill in the
following information in the Editing NAU VPN window. DO NOT
enter your password. Click the Advanced
button when finished.
name: Whatever you wish the connection to be called
name: abc123 (enter your own NAU UserID in place of abc123)
*For NAU Faculty & Staff: be sure to specify the NAU domain before your NAU UserID. (Example: NAU\abc123).

In the PPTP
Advanced Options window:
everything but MSCHAP and MSCHAPv2 under the Authentication section.
Security and Compression, only check the boxes next to Use Point-to-Point
Security to All Available (Default).

Click OK and
Save the connection. The NAU VPN
connection should now appear under VPN Connections when you click on the double
arrows network icon. Double click on the
NAU VPN connection and enter your password. NEVER save your password for
this connection. Not only is this
unsecure, but the VPN will not connect with the password saved.
NAU VPN now appears in the Networks drop-down menu.You
should receive a message letting you know that you have successfully connected
to the VPN and a closed lock should appear over you network icon.
