Clearing Internet Temporary Files

How to clear your cache and cookies (i.e. temporary internet files)

If you need help determining which web browser you are currently using, please visit this website.

  • Internet Explorer: Click the Gear icon in the upper right corner -> click 'Internet Options' -> in the window that pops up select the 'General' tab -> under 'Browsing History' select 'Delete...' -> ensure ' Temporary Internet files and website files' and 'Cookies and website data' are checked -> ensure 'Preserve Favorites website data' is NOT checked -> click 'Delete' -> once complete close any open Internet Explorer windows.

  • Firefox for Windows: Click the 3 diagonal lines in the upper right corner -> select ‘History’ -> select ‘Clear Recent History…’ -> in the new small window set the ‘Time range to clear:’ to ‘Everything’ -> ensure ‘Cookies’ and ‘Cache’ are checked -> click ‘Clear Now’ -> once complete close any open Firefox windows.

  • Chrome for Windows: Click the 3 diagonal lines in the upper right corner -> select ‘History’ -> click ‘Clear browsing data…’ -> in the new tab ensure ‘Obliterate the following items from:’ is set to ‘the beginning of time’ -> ensure ‘Cookies and other site and plugin data’ and ‘Cached images and files’ are checked -> click ‘Clear browsing data’ -> once complete close any open Chrome windows.

  • Safari for Mac: Click ‘Safari’ at the top left corner -> select ‘Preferences…’ -> in the new window select the ‘Privacy’ tab -> click ‘Remove All Website Data…’ -> click ‘Remove Now’ -> once complete close any open Safari windows and ‘Quit’ Safari.

  • Firefox for Mac: Click the 3 diagonal lines in the upper right corner -> select ‘History’ -> click ‘Clear Recent History…’ -> in the new small window set the ‘Time range to clear:’ to ‘Everything’ -> ensure ‘Cookies’ and ‘Cache’ are checked -> click ‘Clear Now’ -> once complete close any open Firefox windows and ‘Quit’ Firefox.

  • Chrome for Mac: Click the 3 diagonal lines in the upper right corner -> select ‘History’ -> click ‘Clear browsing data…’ -> in the new tab ensure ‘Obliterate the following items from:’ is set to ‘the beginning of time’ -> ensure ‘Cookies and other site and plugin data’ and ‘Cached images and files’ are checked -> click ‘Clear browsing data’ -> once complete close any open Chrome windows and ‘Quit’ Chrome.
