Department of Geography Planning and Recreation
Welcome to the GPR department at Northern Arizona University
Northern Arizona University has been offering Bachelor of Science degrees in Recreation since 1961, and a Bachelor of Science in Geography since 1967, although geography courses have been taught at NAU since 1934. The department of Geography, Planning, and Recreation (GPR), a unit within the college of Social and Behavioral Sciences, was created in 2003. The geography program offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the emerging field of geodesign (visit our GeoDesign Blog). This includes specializations in community planning and geospatial technologies, such as geographic information systems (GIS).
The Parks and Recreation Management Program is accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The PRM program prepares professionals for rewarding positions in the exciting field of parks, recreation, and leisure services through traditional campus and web based courses. The GPR department promotes experiential and applied educational experiences and serves both on campus and online students.
Become a part of the Geography, Planning, and Recreation department and contribute to our goal of “Building Better Communities…Building a Better World!”
