Sales Classes and Curriculum

Students interested in pursuing a career in sales can choose from the following options depending on their current major. To learn more about the courses you can take, contact the FCB Office of Advising and Academic Support.

Options based on your major

For students pursuing a major in marketing

Marketing majors can select a concentration in Professional Selling to better prepare themselves for careers in sales, customer relationship management, and business development.

The professional selling concentration can be added by completing the following courses:

Marketing Major Core Requirements (12 units) Accordion Closed

  • MKT 334: Consumer Behavior (MKT 3331)
  • MKT 439: Marketing Research (MKT 333, MKT 334)
  • MKT 494: Strategic Marketing (MKT 333, MKT 334, and 439)
  • ISM 440: Applied Business Intelligence (ISM 360)

Professional Selling Concentration Requirements (15 units) Accordion Closed

Required (9 units)

  • MKT 337: Professional Selling (MKT 333)
  • MKT 435: Sales Strategy and Technology (MKT 333, MKT 337)
  • MKT 437: Sales Force Management (MKT 333, MKT 337)

Electives (6 units). Choose two courses from the following:

  • MKT 348: Integrated Marketing Communication Strategy (MKT 333)
  • MKT 450: Electronic Marketing (MKT 333)
  • MKT 408 Internship (must be approved by MKT Area Coordinator)
  • CST 321: Nonverbal Communication

For students pursuing a major other than marketing

Non-marketing majors can receive a marketing certificate with an emphasis in Professional Selling by completing the following courses:

Professional Selling Concentration Requirements (15 units) Accordion Closed

Required (12 units)

  • MKT 333: Principles of Marketing
  • MKT 337: Professional Selling (MKT 3331)
  • MKT 435: Sales Strategy and Technology (MKT 333, MKT 337)
  • MKT 437: Sales Management (MKT 333, MKT 337)

Elective (3 units). Choose one course from the following:

  • MKT 334: Consumer Behavior & Satisfaction (MKT 333)
  • MKT 348: Integrated Marketing Communications Strategy (MKT 333)

Note: This certificate may only be pursued and completed concurrently with a degree program.  This certificate is not available as a stand-alone certificate.

For a list of certificates open to non-business majors, contact the Office of Academic Services in the FCB. The FCB will allow you, as a non-FCB student, to take an eligible FCB certificate program if you have a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA), and at least 30 units earned.  If you have a GPA of less than 2.75 but at least 2.5, we will admit you into an eligible certificate plan on a space-available basis.

Because non-FCB students are not allowed to take more than 27 units of business classes with the FCB, and because most upper-division business courses require admission to the Business Professional Program or a waiver of prerequisite, non-FCB students must visit the FCB Office of Academic Services before pursuing an FCB certificate.
