Forestry Graduate Student Association

The Forestry Graduate Student Association (FGSA) is a representative voice for all graduate students in the School of Forestry here at Northern Arizona University. FGSA is cooperative in design, aiming to unite the various forestry sub-disciplines within the membership.

The purpose of the FGSA is to provide a forum through which graduate students in the School of Forestry can interact with one other, as well as faculty and staff. As an organization, FGSA is entitled to have a representative (non-voting) present at all faculty and Graduate Curriculum Committee meetings in the School of Forestry.

The FGSA:

  • sponsors the Forestry Seminar Series, managing all facets of the speaker series including scheduling, recruiting and hosting speakers, and assuring that the weekly event is as successful as possible.
  • hosts at least one social event per year (usually the new graduate student orientation cookout).
  • specifically aims to encourage its members to make the most of their graduate school endeavors and act as a resource. As graduate students from diverse backgrounds (national and international), we bring valuable experiences, knowledge, interests, skills, energy, and imagination to our school and encounter various obstacles.
  • seeks to recognize and enhance our individual and collective assets through interactive and participatory means to answer questions and add supports so the each graduate student’s experience might be the fullest. Therefore, FGSA provides the organizational basis for its members to sponsor and coordinate academic and social events, on a variety of scales, from school and college level, on to the University and Flagstaff communities, and beyond to regional, national, and international levels.

Seminar

The FGSA Seminar Series features presentations by individuals from a variety of research and management backgrounds.
