Graduate tuition waivers

Advanced degree-seeking students have multiple options to fund education

Elevate your career with a graduate degree. NAU helps make your advanced program possible with awards in the form of graduate assistantships (GAs) and tuition waivers.

GAs and waivers pay for all or part of the tuition cost for full-time, degree-seeking graduate students who are in good academic standing. Contact your academic program or service unit for information about the application process for both types of awards.

Tuition waivers

Waivers can be either academic merit-based or need-based. They are available for resident and non-resident students.

Graduate assistantships

Graduate assistantships provide valuable experience in teaching, research, or service to your program in exchange for a stipend. GAs with an appointment of 10 or more hours per week are considered residents for tuition purposes during the terms of employment.

Full-time GAs

Full-time GAs are available for 20 hours a week of work, and provide a 100-percent tuition waiver, a waiver of the student health insurance premium, and a stipend.

Part-time GAs

Part-time GAs are available for 10 hours a week of work, and provide a 50-percent tuition waiver and a stipend.

NAU “at-large” graduate assistantships

Non-academic graduate assistantships are available through many university offices. Stipend amounts vary based on the office, job duties, and degree.

Through “at-large” graduate assistantships, you can pursue opportunities to work with a range of groups including:
