Who should complete the FAFSA?

If you’re a student planning to attend Northern Arizona University (NAU) this fall, completing the FAFSA is your first step towards unlocking financial aid opportunities. Whether you’re a first-time freshman, a continuing student, or a transfer student, the FAFSA is essential.

What is the FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federal form that determines your eligibility for various types of financial aid, including federal, state, and institutional grants, loans, and work-study programs. It’s not just about loans—many grants and scholarships require you to complete the FAFSA.

Where to complete the FAFSA

Head over to fafsa.gov to start your application. Make sure to fill out the 2024-2025 FAFSA using your 2022 tax information and use NAU’s school code: 001082.

Why should you complete the FAFSA?

Maximize financial aid

Submitting your FAFSA allows NAU to determine your eligibility for various forms of financial aid, potentially reducing or even covering your college expenses.

Beyond loans

You might qualify for grants (which don’t need to be repaid) and work-study opportunities.

Income doesn’t matter

There are no income restrictions—everyone is considered for financial aid.

Don’t leave money on the table

Millions in Federal Pell Grants go unclaimed each year because students don’t apply!

How long will it take?

Filling out the FAFSA can take less than 15 minutes if you have all your information ready. It’s a small time investment that can yield significant financial rewards.

Indigenous students eligibility for additional funding

The first and most important step in paying for college is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This ensures you receive the most possible financial aid, and many tribal organizations use your FAFSA information to consider you for other scholarships and aid.

The Financial Needs Analysis Form (FNA) is a key part of your tribal scholarship application and must be completed each semester or year, depending on your tribe/tribal organization.
