Three-time Lumberjack wins Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Robyn Yewell, an elementary school teacher in Tucson and a master’s student in the Center for Science Teaching, was announced in February as one of the national awardees of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, K-6, for 2020. Approximating Practice in Mathematics Teacher Education: Supporting and Revealing Teacher Candidate Learning

The Department of STEM Education along with the Center for Science Teaching and Learning presented guest speaker, Dr. Matthew Campbell from West Virginia University. NAU’s CSTL contributes to Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration

The Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration went virtual this year with the help of NAU’s Center for Science Teaching and Learning.

Anne Hamlin of the CSTL and STEM City board member helped coordinate the virtual week-long event that featured local STEM organizations with videos about how they use STEM in their daily work.

The videos premiered each night the first week of May and are indefinitely available.

CSTL Receives NASA Funding to Support Outreach in Underserved Communities

The Center for Science Teaching and Learning has received a $359K NASA grant to develop a replicable engagement model to prepare planetary scientists to engage audiences in planetary science with an explicit focus on Black and Latinx communities.

The CSTL team, led by PI Lori Rubino-Hare, will partner with the Lunar and Planetary Institute on Planetary Resources and Content Heroes (ReaCH) to develop a replicable engagement model for preparing NASA scientists to engage diverse audiences in planetary science.
