The Meaning Beyond The Words: How Language, Race, & Culture Impact Science Teaching & Learning

The Department of STEM Education along with the Center for Science Teaching and Learning presented guest speaker, Dr. Bryan Brown from Stanford University. Dr. Brown shared an overview of his research into the complex interaction between language and learning, particularly in the science classroom. He introduced the concept of “languaculture” expressing the relationship between language and culture, which then influences how students may or may not be able to learn science effectively. Check out his recorded lecture and slide deck in our STEM Education Seminars archive.
