Alumni Spotlight: Danny Patrick Lopez

Posted by Author on Source on February 24, 2021

The CSTL is proud to work with the next generation of Science and Math educators, helping them along their path in becoming highly qualified teachers who inspire students every day. We checked in with one of our alumni to see what he is doing after his time with the Center at NAU.

Meet Danny Patrick Lopez.

What are you up to nowadays Danny?

Currently, I am teaching science at a secondary school in Essex, UK. This August, I will be returning to my home on Maui to continue teaching science at a school in Makawao.

That’s amazing! Love to see or alumni abroad. How did CSTL programming set you up for success post-grad?

NAU’s CSTL did an amazing job of preparing me for my career in education. I am ahead of other beginning teachers during my first year, and Scott Fray and others from the program are still ready to help and offer advice when I need it. I would say that the CSTL program should be rewarded for leading such a wonderful program with increases in funding and pay raises for the staff.

Could you share one fond memory or experience from your time with the CSTL or NAU?

The TSM Step One course convinced me to follow through and pursue a career in education. Our first experience in the classroom teaching sixth graders at Sinagua will always be one of my fondest memories. That energy and excitement was there throughout the program with every course, and that could not have been possible without the energy and love from the CSTL instructors, teachers, and staff. (The photo attached is me with fellow Maui teachers from our union at a pride rally).

So great, thank you Danny! All of us at the CSTL wish you the best of luck with your teaching position and your move back to Maui.
