Physical Therapy Project Awarded the “Social Responsibility” Ribbon
This year at the American Physical Therapy Combined Sections Meeting, which is a National Conference, a project submitted by both students and faculty, titled “Physical Therapy Access for Patients Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing: Pilot Qualitative Study” was awarded the “Social Responsibility” ribbon! This is a special accomplishment, as this is a first for the Physical Therapy Department, and it also highlights the efforts that students have been and are making to find ways to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in both clinical practice and higher education.
The Doctoral Students that were a part of this project are Colbi McAfee, Braden Mengerelli and Monica Szeto. The faculty members involved are Assistant Clinical Professor in the Dept. of PT and AT, Jeffrey Foucrier, and Director of the Center of Entrepreneurial Leadership and Transformational Change at the Evergreen State College, Tamsin Foucrier.
The qualitative study was completed to assess the barriers to physical therapy access for individuals that are deaf or hard of hearing. It was accepted as a peer reviewed poster at the American Physical Therapy Association national conference (Combined Sectional Meeting) this upcoming winter!
Please join us in congratulating the Doctoral Students, as well as the faculty who made this accomplishment possible!
