Spring 2023 Standard Bearer for CAL & Outstanding Graduate from the Department of Art and Design: Alicia Yazzie Summers
Alicia was first accepted to NAU in the summer of 1997 when she graduated high school. Although postponed for over 20 years, she truly believes studying at Northern Arizona University was meant to be. “Every teacher from the Interior Design Department has contributed to my pursuit of knowledge,” she says. “They are a great team that truly invests their time, energy, and kindness into the students. The Interior Design program is a phenomenal environment to learn as a student and grow as a designer. We all leave carrying the shared knowledge and fervent encouragement of an amazing group of graduating Interior Designers and will continue to support each other in our next steps. I appreciate you Sheri, Kate, JR, Sara, Christina, and Vince!”
Alicia feels that the Construction Management Department also went above and beyond to assist in her education. “Thank you to Dr. Louis Cirelli and Timothy Womack for showing me the joy of construction! The hands-on construction lab was such a fun way to learn. Go team Blue!” Learning both the construction management and interior design curriculum together has already given Alicia an advantage in the job market. With these great programs behind her, she is confident that her next steps will be successful and impactful. Alicia will be continuing her educational journey by pursuing her master’s degree while working for the U.S. Department of the Interior with an internship in the Planning Division, under their Branch of Engineering Services.
