History and CAL Outstanding Graduating Senior: Meagan Engels

Meagan Engels has been unanimously nominated by the History Department faculty as the Outstanding Graduating Senior. She has also been awarded the CAL Outstanding Graduating Senior.

After graduating with a 4.0 GPA in BS ED History & Social Studies and a minor in Criminal Justice, Meagan’s passion for history began during an impactful 8th-grade field trip to Washington D.C., leading her to pursue a career in education. Her professors have commended her deep engagement with diverse materials, noting that her projects are among the best submitted. A highlight of her time at NAU was the Spanish Civil War Internship with the Martin Springer Institute, where she collaborated on curriculum resources presented at the Educate2Act conference and published on the “C3 Inquiry” website.

Meagan is dedicated to community service, having worked with Cypress Parks and Recreation and mentoring over forty first-year students through the Peer Jacks program at NAU. Currently, she engages with youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Flagstaff, promoting a safe environment and raising awareness of economic disparities. After graduating, she plans to pursue a graduate degree in history, and the department faculty wholeheartedly supports her ambitions and wishes her success in her future endeavors.
