What is the NES®? Accordion Closed
The NES® (National Evaluation Series™) tests have replaced many of the former AEPA® (Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments™) Professional Knowledge and Subject Knowledge tests required for Arizona teacher certification. These tests are ALL computer-based. The Assessment for Professional Knowledge (APK) tests for College of Education students are aligned with the InTASC (Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium) national teaching standards. As of September 2012, the NES® APK tests for Elementary and Secondary are the official tests to fulfill the professional knowledge testing requirement for Arizona teacher certification. Northern Arizona University’s COE students can find registration information, test design, fees, and test site locations for these tests on the NES website. Many subject knowledge tests required for teacher certification have also been replaced with NES® tests. For more information on which tests are required for your certification needs, NAU COE students are encouraged to contact the TPC or visit the Arizona Department of Education website.
What is the AEPA®? Accordion Closed
The AEPA® (Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments™) are still required for teacher certification in Arizona for many areas (including Early Childhood). All of these tests were moved to computer-based testing during 2013. NAU students in the College of Education can find registration information, test design, fees, and test site locations for these tests on the AEPA website.

Who can use the TPC’s services?
The NAU College of Education Test Preparation Center is a resource for Northern Arizona University students and alumni teacher candidates.
