KNAU Interviews Julie Baldwin about a Report on Alcohol-Impaired Driving Fatalities

CHER Director, Julie Baldwin, is a member of the Committee on Accelerating Progress to Reduce Alcohol-Impaired Driving Fatalities. The committee authored the Consensus Study Report Getting to Zero Alcohol-Impaired Driving Fatalities: A Comprehensive Approach to a Persistent Problem, which was the topic of KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny’s interview with Julie Baldwin. The National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine report calls for stricter blood alcohol concentration laws in an effort to reduce impaired driving injuries and fatalities.

Ricky Camplain accepted as an Indigenous Substance Abuse, Medicines, and Health Research Training Fellow

Ricky Camplain, a Postdoctoral Scholar at CHER, has been accepted as a Fellow in the Indigenous Substance Abuse, Medicines, and Health Research Training program. The program is affiliated with the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, under the National Center of Excellence. It is a mentorship program that allows scholars of indigenous backgrounds to research in the areas of substance abuse, medicines and addictions within their indigenous communities.

Opioid Use and Overuse Prevention Workshops Lead by CHER Faculty

Emery Eaves and Lisa Hardy will be facilitating a workshop for healthcare providers focused on patients’ chronic pain and opioid use. An overdose prevention training, hosted by Eaves and Hardy, will be held for community members. This session includes recognizing and responding to opioid overdose and lessons on the administration of key medication.

New opportunities for community-based work in adolescent drug abuse

The Institute for Translational Research Education (ITRE) in Adolescent Drug Abuse is expanding to NAU, bringing opportunities for graduate students at NAU to learn about community-based research in this field, and to partner with local community agencies for a service learning project. This federally-funded, state-of-the-art research education program teaches the practical skills of translational research and implementation science in the field of adolescent behavioral health.
