It is rooted in other reviews which have recognized the success of community health workers (chws)/promotoras de salud1 in promoting healthy lifestyle changes and reducing the burden of chronic disease (Gibbons and Tyrus 2007; Lewin et al. 2005; Nemcek and Sabatier 2003; Swider 2002).
